CDS Calls for Unified Effort as Acting Army Chief Oluyede Takes Command.


ABUJA: The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has urged the Military High Command to collaborate effectively to ensure the country’s safety, as Major General Olufemi Oluyede officially assumes the role of Acting Chief of Army Staff. This call to action was made during the formal handover ceremony in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

According to Voice of Nigeria, General Musa emphasized the critical need for teamwork in addressing Nigeria’s various security challenges. He highlighted the importance of continuity in military leadership, which motivated the President and Commander-in-Chief to appoint an Acting Chief of Army Staff. This decision is aimed at preventing any operational gaps and maintaining a steadfast approach to combating insecurity.

General Musa acknowledged the efforts of field commanders, commending their dedication and urging them to remain vigilant as the festive season approaches. He reiterated the necessity of a united front within the armed forces, as mandated by the
Commander-in-Chief, to ensure the safety and security of the nation.

The Defence Chief also provided insights into the temporary nature of Major General Oluyede’s appointment, explaining that Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, is on medical leave. He expressed hope for Lagbaja’s quick recovery and return to duty, while affirming the President’s authority in appointing Oluyede to oversee the army’s operations in the interim.

In his inaugural address, Acting Chief of Army Staff Major General Olufemi Oluyede solicited cooperation from all military personnel to effectively tackle insecurity across Nigeria. He pledged unwavering loyalty to the Constitution and the President, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him during this critical period.

Major General Oluyede emphasized the importance of prayer and support for Lieutenant General Lagbaja’s health and affirmed his commitment to continuing the army’s mission of securing Nigeria’s territorial integrity. He acknowledged the ex
tensive responsibilities that come with his new role and pledged to uphold the Nigerian Army’s reputation for professionalism and discipline.

The new Acting Chief’s appointment aligns with directives outlined in the Armed Forces Act, which grants the President authority to appoint service chiefs. This ensures that the army’s leadership remains robust and responsive to the nation’s security needs.
