Post: Designer Advocates Adoption of Environmentally Responsible African Fashion

Abuja: Blessing Onomen, Founder and Creative Director of Bloza Fashion Empire, has called for sustainable, ethical, and environmentally responsible fashion across Nigeria and Africa. Onomen made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) ahead of the launch of her maiden Classic Fusion Fashion Show scheduled to hold on Dec. 6.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Onomen emphasized the need for the Nigerian fashion sector to champion sustainability and cultural elegance. She explained that Bloza Fashion Empire is redefining luxury by merging elevated craftsmanship with conscious environmental stewardship. The brand, rooted in its name Bloza-derived from Blossom and Blaze-symbolizes growth, transformation, and the bold creative energy to reimagine Africa’s fashion future.

The upcoming event in Abuja will spotlight eco-friendly and ethically sourced fabrics, cultural and upcycled couture aimed at reducing textile waste. Onomen highlighted that the fashion show would also feature low-waste production processes, high-quality durable garments, and capacity-building for young designers on sustainable fashion techniques. She reiterated the brand’s vision that sustainability is not a trend but a responsibility.

Onomen noted that Bloza Fashion Empire aims to address recurring consumer concerns in the Nigerian fashion sector, such as inconsistent delivery timelines, poor finishing, and excessive textile waste. The brand’s sustainability-driven framework emphasizes strict adherence to production timelines, zero tolerance for material misuse, and ethical staffing and expert craftsmanship to promote quality, longevity, and environmental responsibility.

Reflecting on the new line, Onomen shared her creative motivation and the significance of the showcase, which is not only about clothing but also a celebration of vision, talent, cultural identity, and the endless possibilities within Nigerian fashion. The collection integrates waste-reducing methods, conscious cuts, and repurposing remnants into accessories, appliqu©s, trims, and patchwork, blending cultural heritage with modern tailoring, social responsibility, and everyday wear.

Onomen expressed that although she faced challenges common to entrepreneurs, such as cost pressures and supply chain setbacks, her resilience led to the establishment of a physical studio, a loyal community, and now the maiden Classic Fusion Fashion Show. Envisioned as a convergence point for cultural expression and eco-conscious innovation, the fashion show aims to spark a continent-wide conversation on responsible fashion.
