Enugu: The Enugu East Council Chairman, Mr. Beloved-Dan Anike, has inaugurated the Enugu East Land Mediation Centre. This initiative aims to foster peace and development within communities by addressing land issues effectively.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the bill was signed into law during a ceremony at the council headquarters in Nkwo Nike. The event was attended by dignitaries and local officials. Anike emphasized the growing importance of land as a critical asset globally, noting the rise in land disputes due to the influx of residents and investors into the urban area.
The centre aims to provide an Alternative Dispute Resolution platform, allowing individuals to address land-related issues amicably without resorting to court proceedings. Anike expressed optimism that the centre would substantially reduce land disputes, conserve resources, and enhance relationships within the community.
Anike also extended an invitation to those experiencing land disputes to seek assistance at the centre, assuring them of a resolution process that would protect their investments. He emphasized that the centre would represent a turning point in managing land disputes, contributing to a more peaceful and prosperous council area.
In his remarks, Justice Okey Anike of the Enugu State High Court praised the initiative, asserting that the mediation centre would offer hope to those trapped in prolonged disputes.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Enugu East Local Government Area is one of the urban councils in the state and has experienced many land disputes due to its strategic location.
