Abuja: The Federal High Court (FHC) has announced the establishment of a Freedom of Information (FoI) Desk aimed at enhancing access to information for journalists and the public. This initiative underscores the court’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and improved dissemination of information.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Catherine Christopher, the Director of Information at the FHC, emphasized that the establishment of the FoI Desk aligns with the court’s dedication to upholding transparency and promoting access to information. The desk will act as a central point for receiving inquiries, submitting formal FoI requests, and providing guidance on accessing public records in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.
Dr. Christopher highlighted that the desk, located at the FHC’s Headquarters in Abuja, is staffed with trained personnel prepared to assist individuals and organizations seeking information about the court’s activities, decisions, and operations. The initiative aims to ensure compliance with legal and procedural requirements in accessing information.
The establishment of the desk reflects the court’s ongoing efforts to foster open communication and support the constitutional right to information. For further details, the public is encouraged to visit the Information/FOI Desk at the Federal High Court Headquarters during official working hours or contact them via email or phone.
The News Agency of Nigeria also notes that the FoI Act, enacted in 2011, provides citizens with a legally enforceable right to access information held by public institutions, including government ministries and agencies. The Act seeks to enhance transparency, accountability, and public participation in government.
