FG Inaugurates Governing Council for Katsina Agriculture College

Abuja: The Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Council of the newly established Federal College of Agriculture and Technology, Nabanje, in Katsina State. Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, stated that the college was created to promote agricultural education, innovation, and national development.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ahmad emphasized that the appointment of the council members was based on their proven track record in leadership, national service, and commitment to development. She highlighted that the institution is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to revitalize the agricultural sector through human capital development, research, and innovation.

The minister underscored the importance of partnerships with local communities, private sector stakeholders, and international partners to achieve the college’s objectives. She urged the council to focus on transparency, effective governance, entrepreneurship, and demand-driven research. ‘Your appointment is not just an honour, but a call to serve our country through transformational leadership in education and agriculture,’ Ahmad stated.

The institution is strategically positioned to contribute to Nigeria’s goals for food security, youth employment, and sustainable economic growth. Ahmad also tasked the council with developing a strategic plan spanning five to ten years in collaboration with the college’s management while promoting peaceful cooperation within the institution.

While noting that the role does not come with substantial financial incentives, Ahmad reminded members of the national importance of their service and encouraged them to build a legacy for future generations. ‘Your job is a national duty, build a legacy your grandchildren will remember,’ she added.

In response, the Chairman of the Council, Prof. Oluwagbemi Tai, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the Ministry of Education, and the National Assembly for facilitating the establishment of the college. ‘We want to build a centre of excellence that will be second to none in the region,’ he said.

NAN reports that members of the governing council include Alhaji Labiru Kafur, Alhaji Yusuf Hassan, Prof. Abdusamad Jibia, Prof. Inuwa Usman, and Dr Mukhtar Habib, who serves as Provost of the college.
