Yenagoa: Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa has extended his greetings to women and mothers on the occasion of the 2025 International Mother’s Day, also referred to as Mothering Sunday. He emphasized the importance of mothers as the cornerstone of families and societal unity.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Diri expressed that the celebration serves as a moment to recognize and appreciate the vital role mothers play within the family, society, and in nation-building. He noted that the theme for the 2025 celebration, ‘Beauty of Motherhood’, aptly captures the essence of motherhood.
The governor highlighted that mothers are builders and nurturers, acting as the bulwark of family and societal cohesion and growth. He remarked that without mothers, homes, families, and society would lose their essence. Diri shared a personal reflection on the role of his own mother in instilling virtuous values in children, describing her as a symbol of love, sacrifice, and virtue.
He encouraged mothers to continue being the glue that holds families and nations together, noting that well-nurtured children contribute to a stable and cohesive society. Furthermore, Diri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting women and mothers through affirmative action, skills acquisition, and empowerment programs.
