Gov. Oborevwori Enacts Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024, and Six Other Laws


Asaba: Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has officially signed the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024, along with six additional bills, into law at a ceremony held at Government House. The governor highlighted the significance of the electricity bill as a key element in advancing the state’s industrialization efforts.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the other bills signed into law include the Delta State Physical and Regional Planning Bill, 2024; Delta State Film and Video Censor’s Board Bill, 2024; Registration and Regulation of Private Veterinary Clinics (Amendment) Law, 2024; Child Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2024; Delta State Pet Control and Responsible Ownership Bill, 2024; and the Delta State College of Health Technology, Ovrode Bill, 2024.



Gov. Oborevwori expressed appreciation for the State House of Assembly’s leadership in passing these bills, which are crafted to tackle pressing issues and enhance the quality of life for the residents. He emphasized the transformative potential of the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Law, 2024, stating that it establishes a legal framework to attract investments in power generation, transmission, and distribution.



The governor underscored the importance of power in facilitating investments and noted that with the legal groundwork in place, Delta State is poised to welcome investors in the electricity sector. He also highlighted the enhanced protections for children under the Child Rights Amendment Law, 2024, including restrictions on child labor and the establishment of an Adoption Service Department in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development.



Gov. Oborevwori affirmed the broader impact of these laws, which aim to protect vulnerable populations, improve living standards, promote sustainable development, and boost the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR). He called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the new laws.



Earlier, Emomotimi Guwor, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, presented the bills and praised the governor for the ongoing construction projects throughout the state.
