Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has expressed his confidence that the government would take initiative for the overall development of the film sector. At the ‘Cultural Transformation Award-2082’ distribution ceremony hosted by the Film Development Board here on Monday, Minister Kharel stated the ministry would work for the development, expansion, and sustainability of the film industry, as well as for the larger interests of the artists.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the minister lauded the Nepali cine sector for its crucial role in societal transformation and described cine artists as change agents of the country. He emphasized that the film sector serves as an intermediary of change in the nation and highlighted the state’s responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of those who have dedicated their lives to the nation through social security.
Minister Kharel shared that he had issued necessary instructions to the ministry’s office-bearers to develop a plan of action for the advancement of the Nepali film sector and the welfare of film artists during his tenure. He mentioned that discussions have already begun regarding the necessary policy reforms.
Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal also pledged to facilitate the process for the sustainable development of the film sector. Additionally, 15 film artists were honored with cash awards and letters of appreciation in recognition of their contributions to social and cultural transformation at the event.
