Post: Governor’s Wife Assures Safety of Women, Children Amidst Impending Flood

In light of recent predictions that Anambra State is at high risk of flooding in 2024, Anambra Governor’s Wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has called on residents of flood-prone communities to prioritize their safety.

She emphasized the importance of immediate evacuation to higher grounds and outlined the state government’s preparedness measures to minimize the potential impact of the impending natural disaster.

Mrs Soludo also assured the public of the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of women, children, and the elderly during this challenging time.

Mrs Soludo addressed the press in Awka, the state capital, urging residents of flood-prone communities to take proactive measures to protect themselves. The national flood predictions issued by both the federal and state governments highlight the urgency to plan and act swiftly in order to mitigate the potential devastation caused by flooding.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, Mrs Soludo disclosed that the state government ha
s already begun making containment plans and collaborating with various stakeholders, including the federal government, local authorities, and global partners. These joint efforts aim to address the immediate challenges that may arise from the flood, especially regarding health, economy, and social issues.

The Governor’s wife stressed the importance of early evacuation, urging residents to move to higher grounds or designated holding facilities before the flood occurs. Waiting until the last minute could pose significant risks to their safety.

Additionally, Mrs Soludo appealed to community leaders, religious institutions, and philanthropists to extend necessary assistance to those affected by the flood. She highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and solidarity during this challenging period.

Furthermore, the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, Mrs Soludo’s non-governmental movement, will conduct assessments to identify areas of need and provide support to individuals and communiti
es affected by the flood.

In recent reports, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, along with the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), identified Anambra State as one of the high-risk areas for significant flood impacts in 2024. Consequently, the Anambra State government has urged affected local government areas, including Anambra East, Anambra West, Ihiala, Ogbaru, Ayamelum, Awka North, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Ekwusigo, and Idemili North, to prepare for the emergency situation by promptly relocating to higher grounds or designated holding camps.

As Anambra State faces the imminent threat of flooding, the wife of the governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has reassured the public of the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of women, children, and the elderly. Encouraging immediate evacuation to higher grounds, Mrs Soludo underscored the importance of proactive measures to minimize the potential impact of the impending flood. She also called for cooperatio
n and support from community leaders, religious organizations, and well-meaning individuals in assisting those affected by the natural disaster. With collaborative efforts and timely actions, the state aims to safeguard its residents from the ravages of flooding.
