The Labour Party, LP, has decided to collapse political structure into that of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Cross River State.
The former Governor of Cross River, Mr. Donald Duke, accompanied by the gubernatorial aspirant, EyoEkpo, made this known when he unveiled the SDP secretariat in Calabar, the Cross River State capital .
Duke, who is also a presidential Aspirant on SDP platform, said the collaboration between the two political parties would provide the people a better alternative to people in Cross River.
He explained that the agreement was sequel to extensive consultations between the two political parties, which snowballed into the merger.
Duke said in our extensive consultation over the political and economic plight of Cross River State and the nation, we were able to reach out to many, including the Labour Party, which agreed to align with and collapse all their structures at the wards, Local Governments and State into our SDP.
According to him, the Labour Party was equally worried over the deplorable state of infrastructure in Cross River and are willing to align with us to rescue our dear State.
He urged faithful of the SDP to accept members of the now defunct Labour Party and enjoined the new entrants to properly integrate for greater unity.
The presidential aspirant advised members against factions, saying that there is no need for factions in our party. We have one voice, we have one focus and our mission is simple, to rescue Cross River and Nigeria from its current plight.
The governorship aspirant, EyoEkpo said that through the party and with the support of the people, he has the capacity to restore Cross River to its past glory as well as forge ahead.
Ekpo said we have known what good governance looked like. But, today this State is no longer what we knew it to be. For me and the SDP, we are determined to make a difference. We will restore Cross River to the progressive and the paradise it used to be.
He expressed pleasure over the merger of Labour Party and the SDP, adding that the party was prepared to make the desired impact much to the dismay of many.
