Lagos: The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) is preparing to introduce specialized number plates designed to identify and recognize People with Disabilities (PwDs). This announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing, marking the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Osiyemi emphasized that this initiative aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration, which focuses on inclusion. Between May 2024 and March 2025, LSNPPA produced 218,400 standard number plates for both private and commercial vehicles, highlighting its role as the manufacturing arm of the state government responsible for producing vehicle number plates in Lagos State.
Over the past two decades, LSNPPA has expanded its operations to include the production of aluminum-based road furniture, supporting the state’s infrastructure and aesthetics development goals. The authority also offers customized plates, having produced 716 fancy motor vehicle plates and 347 motorcycle fancy plates upon request. Additionally, 224 out-of-series number plates have been produced for special requests and unique numbering needs.
The commissioner reported that LSNPPA issued 11,152 standard number plate replacements, 212 motorcycle plate replacements, and 63 standard fancy replacements to ensure accurate vehicle identification. The authority also produced 428 official number plates, 1,510 dealer plates, and 4,000 articulated vehicle plates.
In collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps, LSNPPA is developing initiatives to produce number plates that align with Go Green initiatives. Osiyemi addressed concerns about the fading of number plates, stating that quality materials are used in production. He noted that the fading could be due to the corrosive materials used to wash cars and emphasized that plate numbers, like all things, have a lifespan and should be replaced as needed.
