NADF and Katsina Government Collaborate on Agricultural Transformation and Job Creation

Abuja: The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and Katsina State Government have committed to transforming the country’s food system and creating jobs for the populace. The pledge was made during a courtesy visit by Governor Dikko Radda to the Executive Secretary of NADF, Mohammed Ibrahim, in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Governor Radda identified agriculture as a crucial component of the nation’s economy, providing over 60 percent of employment. He emphasized the necessity for the country to invest in agriculture to become export-dependent and self-sufficient in food production. ‘We have no reason to be hungry; we have no reason to be poor. If we can harvest all the potential we have, we will have a great nation, with great people, who will be able to move the nation forward,’ he stated.

The governor’s visit was also aimed at formally congratulating the NADF Executive Secretary on his appointment and exploring how the state could leverage the fund to transform its food system. Radda expressed a desire for the agency to become a leading institution in the country and sought partnership and collaboration with sub-national entities, particularly Katsina State, to advance agriculture. He noted that about 90 percent of the state’s population is engaged in agriculture and related value chains, highlighting the importance of investment in agriculture for northern states.

Governor Radda emphasized that investing in agriculture means investing in the vast majority of people, particularly those in rural areas living in poverty. He mentioned that his administration had purchased over 400,000 bags of fertilizer in 2024, distributed across the state, and provided solar-powered pumps to rural farmers to reduce production costs.

In response, Mohammed Ibrahim stated that part of NADF’s mandate is to collaborate with sub-national governments to promote agricultural development and food security. The visit allowed for discussions on how the state government could leverage NADF’s resources to enhance its agricultural initiatives. NADF aims to promote sustainable development and food security by bridging funding gaps, facilitating farmers’ access to finance, and strengthening the agricultural ecosystem.
