The Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency NNMDA will soon commercialise fifteen products and release them to the market.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Uche Nneji at the One-day National Dialogue titled ‘Re-thinking Natural Medicine’ organised by NNMDA in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
‘President Bola Tinubu has charged me to commercialise our research results, and I am reviewing the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency’s application to engage the private sector; approval will soon be granted for the commercialisation of fifteen products under the NNMDA effort.’
The Minister commended the effort of the Agency in carrying out research that drives transformative changes in providing quality and safe traditional medicine through appropriate regulatory mechanisms.
‘Recently, I launched four new oral solid dosage phytomedicines, the first of their kind in the country, and the commercialization of these products is expected to generate 3.8 million job
s impacting multiple sectors from Agriculture to Education.’
The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri Balasubramanian, sought collaboration between the two countries by enhancing research and development. He said Nigeria is blessed with an abundance of natural medicine that needs to be utilised.
In his address, the Director General of Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency, Professor Martins Emeje, said the Dialogue will create the opportunity for Nigeria to enhance the provision of natural medicine with the aid of international and domestic experts.
‘This one-day national dialogue is not just about preserving the past. It is about building a future that honors our heritage and embraces innovation, and it is about creating a care system that is uniquely Nigerian, one that reflects our values, culture, and aspiration as a people.
‘At the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency, we have taken up the challenge with unwavering determination under the visionary leadership of our Minister. We have
made significant strides, and we will continue by God’s grace.’
The event is expected to address challenges bedeviling the quality and safety of traditional medicine, enhance research, and open the door to practitioners to contribute to promoting the country’s natural medicine to the world standard.
The National Dialogue titled Re-thinking Natural Medicine, organised by NNMDA is part of the 2024 Africa Traditional Medicine ATM celebration with the theme Supporting the Provision of Quality and Safe Traditional Medicine through appropriate regulatory mechanisms.
