Naval Chief Inaugurates Hostel and Borehole for Physically-Challenged Children in Kano


Kano: The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, has inaugurated a new hostel block and a solar-powered borehole built for Torrey Home for Handicapped Children located in Tudun Maliki Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area. Represented by Rear Adm. Michael Igwe, Director of Civil Military Relations, Navy, Ogalla emphasized that the project is part of a civil-military initiative designed to promote harmonious relations between the Navy and local communities.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the project was executed under the Chief of Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme (CNSSIQIPS) in honor of Rear Adm. Idi Abbas, a senior research fellow at the Nigerian Army Heritage Centre in Abuja. The initiative aims to further the Nigerian Navy’s Civil-Military Cooperation mandate and support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. These projects are not only a tribute to the Navy’s distinguished officers but also a demonstration of the Navy’s commitment to serving the Nigerian people beyond its primary role of securing lives and property.



The newly inaugurated hostel includes four rooms with toilets, a matron’s room, and a borehole. This initiative aligns with the vision of President Bola Tinubu and reflects the goals of the Quick Impact Projects initiated by Ogalla. Ogalla highlighted that the people of Tudun Maliki and Kano State are encouraged to collaborate with the Navy and other security agencies to ensure the collective wellbeing of Nigerians.



Earlier, Rear Adm. Idi Abbas, the Project Facilitator, stated that the initiative marks a significant day for humanity, the Nigerian Navy, and the people of Kano State. He emphasized the Navy’s appreciation for the cooperation, support, and goodwill received across the country, particularly in areas where the Navy operates. The project serves as a gesture of gratitude for the sacrifices made by the sons and daughters of Kano State in the Nigerian Navy.



Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by retired AVM Ibrahim Umar, lauded the naval chief and the project facilitator for their kind gesture. He called upon individuals, philanthropists, and organizations to support the children, ensuring they feel part of society. The governor reiterated the importance of providing inclusive education for children with disabilities, ensuring they have equal access to quality education and opportunities for societal participation.



The governor also revealed that plans are underway to inaugurate the People Living with Disabilities Commission, affirming the administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for physically challenged children.
