New INEC Headquarters to Bolster Nigeria’s Democratic Institutions: TDF

Abuja: The Democratic Front (TDF) has praised President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to establish a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a significant move towards fortifying Nigeria’s democratic framework.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, this commendation was included in a statement released in Abuja, signed by TDF’s Chairman, Malam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo. TDF highlighted the construction of the new INEC headquarters as a strategic measure aimed at institutionalizing democratic practices within the nation.

The statement emphasized that the new INEC building symbolizes a commitment to solidifying democracy in Nigeria. TDF credited President Tinubu for his dedication to advancing democratic principles, despite facing challenges during military rule in the past.

TDF expressed that Nigeria’s democracy has been hindered by fragile institutions and inconsistent adherence to democratic norms. The organization believes that President Tinubu’s backing of INEC will enhance its autonomy and operational capabilities.

The group also acknowledged President Tinubu for honoring democracy advocates while excluding himself from recognition, interpreting this as a gesture of humility and leadership. TDF believes that such leadership fosters public trust and confidence in the electoral process.

TDF further noted that under President Tinubu’s leadership, INEC has received adequate funding and technical support, which has led to better electoral outcomes in recent elections in Imo, Edo, and Ondo states. These elections were conducted without interference, underscoring INEC’s independence and paving the way for a credible general election in 2027.

The organization urged Nigerians to back the president’s reforms, citing emerging signs of economic recovery and democratic progress.
