Post: NIS Rescues 150 Human Trafficking Victims Along Jibiya Border: Comptroller

Jibiya: The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Jibiya Border Command in Katsina State, has rescued over 150 suspected victims of human trafficking from January to date. The announcement came from the Comptroller, Mr. Haruna Suleiman-Zakirai, during a two-day Anti Smuggling of Migrants Sensitisation event on Thursday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Comptroller disclosed that the suspects were apprehended at various patrol bases and areas under the command, following a tip-off. He emphasized the importance of travelers possessing valid travel documents to present to immigration officers at designated control posts to avoid being considered illegal immigrants. He further explained that even with valid documents, using illegal routes renders a person an illegal immigrant.

Mr. Suleiman-Zakirai highlighted that the command operates seven recognized control posts, including Jibiya/Magama, Jibiya/Maje, Dankama, Zango, Mai’aduwa, Kongolon, and Babban-Mutum, along with Yardaje and Birnin-Kuka outposts. Additionally, there are 14 patrol bases and areas to effectively discharge their mandate.

The Comptroller stressed the importance of enlightening border communities against anti-smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons. He assured that the government is committed to protecting its citizens from dangers such as organ harvest, child labor, prostitution, and recruitment by criminal elements. Intercepted individuals are sensitized about these dangers and handed over to NAPTIP for family reunification.

He called on Nigerians to remain patriotic by obeying national laws and supporting the country’s unity. He urged citizens to defend Nigeria’s interests, emphasizing that there is no other nation besides Nigeria and that everyone should work towards making the country more secure and prosperous.
