Ado-Ekiti: Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has pledged the commitment of his administration to prioritizing workers’ welfare in the state. The governor made the pledge while speaking at the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oyebanji emphasized that workers’ welfare has consistently been a top priority for his government and assured that this focus will persist throughout his tenure. He expressed gratitude to the workers for their support and highlighted the importance of their commitment to constructive dialogues, which has enabled the government to address issues promptly.
The governor further promised to continuously work towards restoring the dignity and pride of workers by ensuring the provision of a conducive civil environment in the state.
During the event, the State NLC Chairman, Kolapo Olatunde, praised Oyebanji for his worker-friendly administration and urged for enhanced security measures to protect lives and property. Olatunde emphasized the need for a consolidated security architecture to counter the persistent issues of kidnapping and violence, particularly in some parts of Benue and Plateau States. He called on security forces to act decisively to ensure the safety of citizens and workers.
Similarly, the State TUC Chairman, Sola Adigun, voiced concerns over the workers’ inability to hold political leaders accountable due to threats against civic freedom. Adigun pointed out that such infringements have made workers vulnerable to attacks and allowed non-state actors to interfere in workers’ struggles. He stressed the importance of reclaiming civic space, advocating for strategic and courageous actions to demand change in this challenging economic climate.
