Post: President Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for Key Federal Appointments


Abuja: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of new management appointees for some federal government agencies in Nigeria. During plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s requests, which were in separate letters.



According to Voice of Nigeria, the agencies in question are the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the National Population Commission (NPC), the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), as well as the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).



President Tinubu sought the confirmation of Abdullahi Ramat as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NERC. He also nominated Abubakar Yusuf and Fouad Olayinka Animashaun as Commissioners for Consumer Affairs and Finance Management Services at NERC, respectively.



At the FCCPC, the President sought the Senate’s approval for Louis Odion as Commissioner for Operations, representing Edo State, and Ummueelm Isiyaku Rabiu as Commissioner for Corporate Services, representing Kano State.



For the NPC, the President nominated Agbaje Olukoye as Chairman, representing the South-West. Other nominees include Hafiz Muhammad Kawu Ibrahim as Commissioner (Technical) representing the North-West; Samuel Chigozie Uwande as Commissioner (Inspectorate) representing the South-East; and Charles Efe Sylvester as Commissioner (Finance) representing the South-South. Also nominated were Bello Abubakar Malabu as Commissioner (Administration) representing the North-East, and Omolola Bridget Oliworaran as Director-General, representing the South-West. Joseph Haruna Kigbu and Tonge Betara Bularafa were also nominated as Commissioners of the NPC from Nasarawa and Yobe States, respectively.



President Tinubu further sought the Senate’s confirmation of five nominees for the RMAFC: Bello Abubakar Wammako from Sokoto State, Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha from Borno, Marafa Bashir Abba from Taraba, Ahmed Waziri Hassan from Adamawa, Bob Helen Inafe from Bayelsa, and Gboyega Oladele from Osun.



In a separate letter, the President asked the Senate to confirm Obehi Aire Okafor as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.
