Post: Redeemer’s University Inducts 74 New Physiotherapists, Calls for Impact in Healthcare


Osun: The Redeemer’s University, Ede, has inducted 74 of its students into the physiotherapy profession.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the students were inducted during the 3rd induction ceremony for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Class of 2025. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, urged the inductees to translate the knowledge and training they acquired at the university into saving lives and improving society.



Akindele emphasized that the theme of the induction ceremony, ‘The Journey to Good Health: From Classroom to the World’, highlights the necessity of the inductees’ knowledge and training in the country’s healthcare sector. ‘The clinical training and knowledge you have acquired will be translated into saving lives and making an impact in the health sector,’ he stated. He also encouraged the inductees to uphold the values of the university and be good ambassadors of Christ in the health sector.



Prof. Chris Okafor, the keynote speaker from the Department of Physiotherapy, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, provided a historical overview of physiotherapy in Nigeria. Okafor noted that the profession began as a three-year diploma programme in 1945 before evolving into a six-year Doctor of Physiotherapy. He advised the inductees to assess their strengths and weaknesses to face challenges effectively and encouraged them to pursue further knowledge abroad, to bring back valuable experience to benefit Nigeria’s healthcare sector.



Dr Dayo Omotoso, the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, also advised the inductees to represent the university positively in the corporate world. Dr Olusegun Ojedoyin, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, urged the inductees to remain patriotic and committed to national unity, stressing the importance of dedication to their profession and field.



Prof. Ahmad Rufia, the Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB), administered the ‘Oath of Induction’ and encouraged the inductees to be a shining light and ambassadors of the profession.
