Sokoto: The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the purchase of a N100 million building to accommodate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state capital. This decision was revealed to newsmen in Sokoto as part of the council’s latest resolutions.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the announcement was made by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan. He explained that the building’s current owner had requested to sell the property, prompting the council to approve the purchase. Prof. Ladan emphasized that the decision was made under the leadership of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu, aiming to ensure the proper settlement of the IDPs. He stated that this initiative would support the government’s efforts to provide necessary assistance and facilitate the identification and integration of IDPs.
In addition, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Alhaji Nasiru Dantsoho, disclosed the council’s approval of N3.6 billion for the rehabilitation of 27 dual carriage roads across the state metropolis. He noted that N2.7 billion has been allocated for the reconstruction of roads damaged during the last rainy season, particularly from Margai to Kebbe and an additional stretch from Gada to Kebbe in Kebbe Local Government Area. Furthermore, N123.6 million was approved for the reconstruction of Zurmi Road in the state capital.
