Post: Super Eagles’ 4-0 Victory Over Benin Republic Boosts World Cup Hopes


Abuja: The Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle, has commended his players for their performance in the last World Cup Qualifying Match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, securing a commanding 4-0 victory. The match, played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, witnessed an early goal by Victor Osimhen in the 3rd minute, setting the tone for a successful outing.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Chelle, during the post-match news conference, highlighted the dedication and effort displayed by his players. He described them as champions, noting their focus and purpose throughout the game. Despite the victory, Chelle emphasized that the journey is not complete until they secure a win in the play-offs for final World Cup qualification.



Chelle expressed his surprise and delight at the team’s performance, acknowledging the challenges ahead in Morocco. He praised the contribution of Victor Osimhen, whom he referred to as the best striker in the world, and celebrated the victory as a significant step forward.



The Super Eagles Captain, Troost Ekong, expressed pride in being part of the team. He credited the victory to the collective effort of the players and appreciated the support from Nigerians during the qualifying series. Ekong reiterated the importance of continued focus, as the team prepares for the play-offs.



On the other side, the Coach of Benin Republic, Gernot Rohr, expressed disappointment over the defeat, which dashed their hopes of World Cup qualification. He acknowledged the strength and experience of the Super Eagles but was proud of his young team’s performance despite their lack of experience.



Rohr noted the challenges faced by his team, including a lack of players at the highest level, and acknowledged their efforts throughout the qualifiers. He expressed pride in coaching the team, recognizing their potential for growth and development despite the setback in Uyo.
