Abuja: The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, which sought to prevent the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) from taking administrative action against the company. Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the case, ruled that the suit constituted an abuse of the court process.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, MultiChoice, the operator of popular satellite television services DStv and Gotv, recently increased its subscription rates. This decision came despite the FCCPC’s invitation to the company to explain the rationale behind the proposed tariff hike. The court had previously issued an interim order restraining the FCCPC from taking any administrative steps against MultiChoice following the announcement of the price increases.
The legal proceedings were initiated after MultiChoice’s lawyer, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, expressed concerns in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/379/2025. Onigbanjo argued that the FCCPC continued to issue letters threatening further sanctions against MultiChoice, even as the litigation was ongoing. Justice Omotosho’s ruling, however, dismissed these concerns, allowing the FCCPC to continue its regulatory actions.
