Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has announced that his administration is taking significant measures to ensure order, accountability, and safety within public transportation. This declaration was made during the inauguration of the newly constructed Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminal in Abuja, an event marking his second year in office. Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tajudeen Abass, the president highlighted the ongoing challenges the nation’s capital faces due to its informal transport system.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, President Tinubu emphasized that the informal transport system has led to traffic congestion and the rise of ‘one chance’ crimes, which pose a threat to citizens’ peace. The construction of the Mabushi Bus Terminal, alongside the recently completed Kugbo terminal, is part of efforts to mitigate these issues. The initiative aims to provide citizens with a secure and regulated environment for boarding vehicles, where both drivers and vehicles are known and registered. This move is seen as a critical step toward improving urban security and cleaning up the city.
The president noted that the project has created over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, benefiting skilled artisans and general laborers in Abuja. This job creation is a testament to the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic empowerment and job creation.
The Mabushi Bus Terminal is described as a modern facility designed for public convenience, featuring integrated commercial activities and areas for relaxation. President Tinubu expressed particular satisfaction with the inclusion of amenities such as cinema halls and essential services, underscoring the high standards that the capital city of Abuja deserves.
President Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, for his vision and dedication in bringing this project to fruition. He praised Wike’s commitment to delivering first-class infrastructure in Abuja, which is reflected in the quality and speed of the project’s completion.
Mr. Wike remarked that the inauguration of the bus and taxi terminal is a significant milestone in the FCT Administration’s efforts to modernize the territory’s transportation infrastructure. He mentioned that the FCT Administration initiated the construction of three bus and taxi terminals in 2024, located in Mabushi, the Central Business Area, and Kugbo.
