The Governors of Imo and Osun States are billed to speak at a public lecture to mark Nigeria’s 20 uninterrupted Democracy.
At the occasion, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state will speak on Democracy at 20: Analysing Emerging Trends in Nigeria’s Democratic Journey.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state will play host to Okorocha and other guests, a paramount traditional ruler, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi will be the royal father of the day.
The public lecture being organised by the Osun NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel will hold on Wednesday May 22, a week to another four-year transition.
According to the chairman of the organising committee, Mr Victor Adeoti, the lecture will hold at the OSAMDO House, Gbongan-Osogbo road, Osogbo at 10:00am, local time.
Adeoti explained that the choice of Okorocha was informed by his status as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, a group of governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Okorocha is reputed as the first governor in Nigeria’s history to have made education free from primary to tertiary institutions for every indigene of his state.
The outgoing governor of Imo State is expected to speak on an array of national issues, ranging from democratic governance, national security and economy.
