Neni (Anaocha LGA)-No fewer than 200 registered farmers in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA), received farm inputs to begin the new farming season.
“This is in a bid not to compromise food security in the state,’’ the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba said, while continuing the disbursement of farming inputs.
The commissioner was represented at the event by Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor on Agric Export, Dr Okey Okwuosa.
The disbursed inputs include inorganic fertilisers, lime for neutralising soil acidity, hybrid cassava stems and maize seedlings.
Mr Onukwuba said that the inputs-support would enable the farmers to achieve maximum yield, so that food would be available for the people, especially after the lockdown, occasioned by Coronavirus pandemic.
“You know that our governor is agric-friendly and has always supported our farmers with certified inputs for optimum yield.’’
He urged them to apply the inputs, using best practices in order to achieve the objective of government.
The agric team had commenced accreditation of farmers by 11am and by 12 noon, started the distribution of the inputs to beneficiary farmers at the LG headquarters.
The LG Director of Agric, Mrs Uzoamaka Nwoye, LG Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Anambra chapter, Chief Donatus Okafor witnessed the exercise.
Meanwhile the disbursement of inputs would continue in other LGAs.
