An aide to Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has declared that his boss has not yet endorsed anybody to succeed him as governor of the state in 2015, saying Akpabio was able to perform under a weighty opposition since the law and democracy allow opposition in governance.

Making the declaration was the senior special assistant (media)/chief press secretary to the governor, Pastor Anietie  Ukpe,  who also flared at insinuations that the governor has positioned somebody to succeed him in 2015.

Ukpe who fielded questions from newsmen during a forum organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State chapter , tagged the Arena,  said the “governor is not worried about opposition because opposition is part of democracy.”

According to him, it is only when opposition operates outside the expectation of democracy that there is a problem.
He said the governor’s achievement within five  years in office has made nonsense of the  efforts by the opposition to frustrate government developmental strides and an history in the state that despite stiff opposition,  government can still operate successfully.
“The governor is tolerant of opposition and that is why he can allow all sorts of media attack on him on a daily basis by some local newspapers, ”he stressed

On who will succeed the governor come 2015, Ukpe said that Akpabio has not anointed or prepared anybody for that office as being speculated.

“The governor does not have any anointed person for 2015. Fair enough, he wishes that Ikot Ekpene senatorial district where he comes from, should allow the other senatorial districts to vie for the position,” he said.

Being a man of fairness, a democrat and a product of due process, Ukpe said the governor would not impose any candidate on the people, maintaining that  whosoever emerges would be through the wish of the electorate.
