2019 Elections: We have achieved campaign promises- President Buhari

Ahead of the crucial Presidential and National Parliamentarian elections on Saturday in Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari has said that the ruling All Progressive Congress APC has performed creditably in achieving the party’s campaign promises of 2015.

Speaking to a mammoth crowd in Ilorin, Central Nigeria on Monday during the round off of the APC Presidential campaign, the President reiterated that in 2015 the APC campaign on three throngs of fighting corruption, revamping the economy and fighting insecurity.

However, the President submitted that in the three and a half years of the regime, there are great successes in the three areas of the campaign.

The people of the North East are our greatest witnesses on the insecurity success. We have done well in that regard, on the economy we have recorded food security in rice production with fertilizer sold at half the price and in the fight against corruption, we are not going to give up. We shall continue to recover stolen resources and invest such in infrastructure for the benefit of all.

Kwara Politics

On his part, Nigeria’s Information Minister who is also the APC leader in Kwara state, Mr Lai Mohammed said the APC has finally broken down the Berlin wall of Kwara politics with the party’s recent victory as well as brilliant outings ahead of the 2019 general elections.

When we won the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke Ero federal constituency by-election on Nov. 17 2018, I said that our party has broken the Berlin Wall of Kwara Politics. I said then that we will repeat the same thing during the 2019 general elections. It is time to retire those who have held Kwara State down and make our people and our state very poor.

The Minister said the Kwara State government and their political godfathers have been deceiving the people. They have been blaming the federal government for their failure when they can’t pay workers salary, they blame the Federal Government, when they can’t provide infrastructure, they blame the Federal Government, and they forgot to tell the people that Mr. President has graciously approved bailouts and Paris Club Refund for states, including Kwara. Ask them, where is the money? What did they do with it?

Key Projects

The Minister listed some key projects being undertaken by the present administration in Kwara state.

He said the Buhari government undertook the dualization of Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa. Instead of spending days travelling on that road, motorists now spend a few hours. With the dualization that is now ongoing, things will get even better, he said.

The Minister said other ongoing projects include Rehabilitation of Ilorin-Kabba-Obajana road, Construction of Ajase-Ipo-Offa-Erin Ile-Osun state boundary, Construction of Kaiama-KIshi Road, Construction of Offa Bypass in Offa LGA, Design and construction of Koro-Nimbo-Shiagi Echi Wada Road, Dualization of Michael Imoudu Ganmo/Afon junction road Ilorin, Rehabilitation of Ilorin Igbetti-Kishi Road.

Over 3,000 homes in Kwara are benefitting from the Conditional Cash Transfer that gives 5,000 Naira monthly to the most vulnerable, hundreds of market women in Kwara have benefited from the Tradermoni and Marketmoni programmes.

Rice Production

He said Anchor Borrowers’ Programme of the Federal Government has seen the number of rice farmers in Kwara grow from 5,000 to 30,000.

Tell them that numerous Kwara indigenes have been given appointments at the federal level, whether into boards of agencies or in other capacities. By the way, all those who continue to hold on to Kwara quotas at the federal level, even after they have decamped from our party, will soon be booted out.
