Abuja: Factional National Chairman of Accord, Prof. Chris Imumolen, has declared that the ongoing internal leadership dispute within the party, currently before the courts, will be pursued to its logical and lawful conclusion. Imumolen addressed this at a news conference, emphasizing that the resolution of the leadership issue should not be influenced by the outcome of the Osun governorship election.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Imumolen asserted that the dispute predates the Osun governorship election and the involvement of Governor Ademola Adeleke with the party. He noted that the matter has been in judicial proceedings since 2024. Imumolen cited an interim order issued on August 29, 2024, by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize him as the National Chairman pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Imumolen explained that efforts were made to engage Adeleke and find a resolution to the leadership c
risis before his entry into the party, but these efforts were unsuccessful. He emphasized the importance of the courts in determining the legitimate leadership of the party, stating that it should not be settled through political pressure or election outcomes.
He reiterated that the leadership dispute within Accord is separate from the Osun election, which he described as a distinct event. Imumolen highlighted that the national leadership issue remains to be resolved through the legal process and should not be conflated with the results of a single state’s election.
Regarding the 2027 presidential race, Imumolen clarified that Accord currently has no presidential candidate, as the party has chosen to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. He affirmed that this political decision does not conflict with the ongoing legal proceedings over the party’s leadership.
