Abuja: The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has defeated the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) 3-1 to win the 5th edition of the Mayor’s Unity Cup in Abuja. According to News Agency of Nigeria, the 2026 edition of the annual novelty football match was held as part of activities to mark International Actors Day on Wednesday.
The match saw entertainers from both the music and film industries in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) come together in a spirited contest. Salma Aminu, Mayor of AGN Abuja chapter, in an interview with NAN, highlighted the tournament’s aim to promote unity and encourage physical fitness among entertainers. She emphasized that the event is a key part of AGN’s health and fitness initiatives.
Aminu further elaborated that the tournament has previously included a variety of associations and clubs, such as the police, comedians, and other entertainers, to foster unity among industry stakeholders. She noted that organizing the Mayor’s Cup is a primary responsibility for each successive mayor of the AGN FCT chapter.
Michael Oyibo, Governor of PMAN FCT chapter, remarked on the significance of the tournament in showcasing Abuja’s entertainment industry and stressed the importance of synergy and physical fitness among celebrities. Holy-Steve Ogbuefi, Chairman of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), FCT Zone, praised the AGN for sustaining the Mayor’s Cup, noting its role in strengthening bonds within the entertainment community.
