Abuja: The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has committed to enhancing the welfare of Nollywood actors by improving remuneration, healthcare, social protection, and professional development. This announcement was made by AGN’s National President, Abubakar Yakubu, during an event in Abuja celebrating the 2026 International Actors Day.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Yakubu emphasized the guild’s vision to elevate Nigerian actors on a global stage. He expressed aspirations for Nollywood actors to gain respect within Nigeria and worldwide, ensuring they receive appropriate compensation for their contributions. He encouraged actors to remain united and professional, highlighting unity as a cornerstone for a robust acting community.
Yakubu further outlined the guild’s strategic goals, which include pursuing international partnerships, enhancing global market access, and providing capacity-building opportunities. These initiatives aim to equip Nigerian actors to compete and thrive in international arenas. Acknowledging the broader film industry, Yakubu praised directors, producers, writers, and various other creative professionals for their critical roles in storytelling.
The AGN President urged both established and emerging Nigerian actors to have faith in their abilities, support one another, and seize opportunities in the international creative space. He stressed that the future of Nigerian actors requires collective effort and determination.
