Abuja: The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has inaugurated the new 3iGnew Airmen’s Quarters and a sports complex at the 053 Headquarters NAF Camp, Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja. Additionally, another staff quarters was inaugurated by the CAS at Abacha Road, Karu, Nasarawa State, highlighting the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to enhancing welfare, morale, and operational readiness.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Air Marshal Aneke emphasized that these facilities are part of a strategic initiative aimed at improving the living conditions, physical well-being, and overall effectiveness of Nigerian Air Force personnel. He noted that the military service requires personnel who are focused, physically fit, and mentally prepared. Thus, adequate accommodation and recreational facilities are critical for boosting welfare, morale, and operational readiness.
The new airmen quarters are designed to provide a more conducive and secure living environment, while the NAV Valley-based Sports Complex will foster physical fitness, recreation, and teamwork. These projects embody one of the CAS’s key enablers, which is maintaining a highly motivated force through enhanced welfare and infrastructural renewal.
The CAS also revealed that the new accommodation blocks are named after officers and airmen who have either sacrificed their lives or sustained injuries during operations. This serves as a tribute to their service, regardless of their rank. Moreover, personnel serving in conflict-prone regions such as the Northeast, Northwest, North Central, and Southeast will be given priority for training slots and other benefits.
Additionally, Air Marshal Aneke outlined plans for providing affordable housing for officers by collaborating with banks, mortgage companies, and the government to reduce land costs. The objective is to make housing more accessible for officers and airmen, ensuring that the majority of residents in these accommodations are service members.
The CAS commended his predecessor, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, for initiating these projects and expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support to the Nigerian Air Force. He urged the beneficiaries to maintain these facilities responsibly and emphasized the importance of including landscaping in all future projects.
Air Commodore Imoke Imoke, Commander of the 053 Headquarters NAF Camp, highlighted that the project represents a significant advancement, with a new and modern design concept for NAF accommodations. This initiative reflects the Directorate of Works’ commitment to future infrastructure development within the service, ensuring reliable and adequate water supply and enhancing the functionality and standard of living for occupants.
