Aisha Buhari advocates harmony among youths

The Wife of Nigeria's President, Mrs Aisha Buhari has called on Mothers and opinion leaders to continue to advocate for peaceful co-existence especially among Youths who she said are being used negatively.

Mrs Buhari made the call in Abuja during , a Breaking of Ramadan Fast, (Iftar) held with Women Muslim Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, humanitarian organisations , Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria and others.

She also said unity and stability of Nigeria cannot be compromised.

Speaking on women participation in politics, the wife of the President said women needs to be given the opportunity to be part of the decision making body, she added that women representative should start from the grassroots.

According to her, the orientation and political morale for women should begin from the grassroots level like occupying positions of councillorship, commissioner, state Houses of Assembly and other positions at the Local government levels and unless we develop the communities we are just wasting our time.

I observe people are clamouring that women should become Ministers ,these and that I think for me women should rather become councilors so that they can take care of the communities, Mrs Buhari added.

She said Iftar is significant in Islam as it reflects life, rebirth renewal, nourishment and rejuvenation.

just like fasting itself reflects sacrifice, self denial and ultimate obedience to the will of God, She stressed .

Mrs Buhari urged various religious groups and other organizations present at the iftar to share a common bond to strengthen unity and harmony in Nigeria.

Speaking on more support for the FUTURE ASSURED programmes of Mrs Buhari, the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo urged women and other stakeholders to join hands with the wife of the President to give good to Nigeria through the FUTURE ASSURED programmes.

we talk about the work her excellency is doing are all about things affecting our lives, talk about kidnapping, I think we can all join hands with her, the goodwill that is expected of us to know that one day the almighty God will ask us the accounts of everything He has given to us, we will have to give account, Mrs Osinbajo said.

She called women not to waste time and opportunities whenever they are called upon.

Meanwhile, wife of the Minister of Transport, Mrs Rotimi Amaechi urged the Nigerian Bar Association to look into happenings in Nigerian university as regards to abuse of female students.

I want to appeal to the Nigeria Bar Association to look into what is happening in Nigerian universities, a lot of women and girls are being maligned and they cannot talk, having to give their bodies for mark, this is an issue the first lady is campaigning against, Mrs Amaechi said.

The representative of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria, Adama Mohammed asked all stakeholders to do more on women and girls abuse, she said there's more needed to be done on to bring back old values while also carrying out re-orientation for women on the need to protect themselves, their girls and the future.
