The Algerian football team has arrived in this southeastern Nigerian city by a special flight to play Nigeria in an Africa Group B qualifier for the 2018 FIFA World Cup here Saturday.
The Algerian squad, led by the chairman of the Algerian Football Association, Mohamed Raouraoua, and consisting of 23 players, as well members the technical and medical staff, was welcomed upon arrival here Thursday by Algeria’s Ambassador in Nigeria, Smail Belkacemi.
The Algerian players will hold their only training session on Friday at Uyo Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Algerian midfielder Afam Ounas, who plays with Bordeaux football club in France, who was included in the national team for the first time, is injured and has withdrawn.
After the first round of Group B qualifying matches, Nigeria is leading the Group B after defeating Zambia 2-1 away in Ndola, while Algeria and Cameroon played to a 1-1 draw in Blida, Algeria.
