Abuja:Vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, together with Titi Atiku-Abubakar, the wife of the partys presidential candidate, have called on women to lead efforts in mobilizing voters for the ADC.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the appeal was made during the ADC National Women’s League Inauguration and the unveiling of the ADC Women 1-10 Votes initiative. The speakers highlighted the significant role women played in South Africas apartheid struggle as a model for their call to action.
Amaechi criticized the current economic conditions, noting that Nigerians are struggling with hardship, poverty, and difficulties in meeting basic needs. He emphasized the importance of women, particularly in northern Nigeria, actively participating in the elections by mobilizing support from local governments to individual polling units.
He assured women and youths of support from the presidential campaign and mentioned plans by the ADC presidential candidate to introduce a production subsidy. This subsidy aims to assist local refiners by providing crude at a reduced cost to lower fuel prices, thereby reducing transportation and food costs.
Amaechi also urged wives of governors and women leaders to influence their husbands towards electoral victory, stressing the impact women have in motivating change.
Titi Atiku-Abubakar addressed the issue of rising living costs affecting Nigerian families and urged women to resist vote-buying tactics. She encouraged them to educate rural communities on the importance of voting, highlighting that temporary benefits from vote-buying could not address long-term issues.
Mrs. Atiku-Abubakar called on women to stand for their rights and future generations, stressing that voting is both a civic right and responsibility. She encouraged peaceful and responsible participation in the electoral process to make their voices heard.
