Anambra commissioned 3 Fire Fighting Equipment

By John Ndu : As expression of readiness to extinguish any class of fire incident, Anambra State government has commissioned for immediate usage, three – state – of – the – art Fire Fighting equipment.

The three fire trucks which would be handled by the men of the state’s Fire Service were presented at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

It was observed that the two out of the three fire trucks known as Municipal Fire Fighting trucks contained 10,000 liters of water, 700 liters of foam and 75kg Dry Chemical Powder system.

Other components include, a roof monitor provision that can throw water and foam up to 50 meters away, a hose delivery outlet of 75 mm and a speed limit of approximately 100km /h.

While the remaining one truck known as Urban Fire Fighting Truck has components of 50,000 litres of water, 250 liters foam, hose delivery outlet of 75 mm and a roof monitor provision that can throw water and foam up to 40 mm.

Commissioning the three trucks, the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano said the three fire trucks would add to the 12 trucks the state had, bringing them to a total of 15 trucks presently in the state.

Governor Obiano noted that the trucks were specifically designed for any class of fire and would be distributed to the three major cities, Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka, for immediate service delivery.

Chief Obiano revealed that the trucks were equipped with sophisticated communication gadgets for easier response for any incident.

The Governor opined that the Federal Roads Safety Corps, Nigeria Civil Defence Corp, State Emergency Management Agency, and other personnel trained for safety would accompany the state fire service men to any fire incident.

He maintained that the training for the first set of 50 youths had commenced, as the second phase of the training would commence soon.

The Governor as well directed the commissioner for Power and Domestic water development, to ensure that all borehole users in the state make provision for a sizeable hose and nozzle in their various tanks for supply of water to the fire trucks for effective delivery, should there be any fire incident in their areas.

Chief Obiano warned untrained individuals to avoid fire scene, urging the people to insure their properties to receive appropriate compensation.

The Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Development, Mr Obi Nwankwo disclosed that the three trucks can handle any class of fire, such as burning material, flammable liquid, gaseous or metallic fire.

The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr Paul Odenigbo stated that the provision of the trucks was in line with governor’s promise during the fire incident in the state, where properties worth millions were destroyed.

Mr Odenigbo while commending governor Obiano for his prompt intervention in the plight of the people, recalled the Governor’s financial assistance in rehabilitating those affected by the fire.

The Commanding Officer Federal Fire Service, South East Zone , Mr Esinwoke Chinedu rated Anambra high to first embrace Federal Fire Service.

Mr Esinwoke urged other states to duplicate such for adequate protection of lives and property.

The highlights were commissioning of the trucks and demonstration of their usage.
