By Onah Paulinus : The acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the minister of Health, Professor Isacc Adewole are expected to be among the dignitaries that will grace the first ever National Post Graduate medical college lecture to hold in the South East Region of Nigeria billed in Anambra state next week.
The lecture, according to the Chief consultant of Ophthalmology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Professor Sebastine Nwosu, is the 18th lecture series of the faculty of Opthalmology, National Medical college of Nigeria since its inception in 1977.
Addressing a press conference at the Guinness eye Hospital, a branch of the Teaching Hospital, in Onitsha, Professor Nwosu said the epoch making event which is also the first of its kind in the Region will afford the university the opportunity of show casing to the world the excellent services the Hospital had been rendering to the Nation since it commenced operation some years ago.
The ophthalmology wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital is a place where we do everything about ophthalmology and I am happy to announce to you that this Hospital is among the best out of the ophthalmological centers in the south East Region and that explains the reason the medical college choose the university this year. This Hospital caters for a cream of Nigerians and Cameroonians among other countries that throng the teaching Hospital for its services and it is the National Post Graduate Medical College in Nigeria established by law to train ophthalmologist in this country.
The Consultant Ophthamolgist expressed satisfaction with the choice of Anambra State as host of this year’s annual lecture and enjoined Ndi Anambra of the South East Zone and indeed people to use the to avail themselves of the opportunity to come and be educated on the eye sight related problems, from the eye specialist drawn from across the country.
He said the lecture would be delivered by eminent academics and would not be technical in nature as every lecture have been tailored to teach people what to do about Diabetes mellaities, especially this time, the case about Diabetes has become an epidemic which can cause blindness and lead to so many complicated illness.
