Katsina: Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State has emphasized that the amendment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Constitution is set to ensure free and transparent primary elections while enhancing the inclusion of women, youth, and People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in the party’s activities. Radda made these remarks during a public hearing on the constitutional amendment for the party’s North-West zone.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Radda highlighted that the amendment focuses on principles, sustainability, and the unity of both the party and the nation. He stated that the changes aim to strengthen internal democracy within APC by ensuring primary elections reflect the grassroots’ will, uphold transparency in party finances and decision-making, and promote equitable representation across all party structures.
The Governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and urged Nigerians to support the administration for the nation’s progress. He emphasized the importance of respecting the party, noting that members owe their current positions to the APC.
Earlier, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Chairman of the Committee, represented by APC Chairman of Cross River, Mr. Alphonsus Eba, mentioned the necessity of amending the constitution to align with current realities. He noted that the existing constitution does not accommodate Governors and National Assembly members in the National Executive Council (NEC) after their tenure, and all submitted memoranda would be compiled for presentation at the national convention.
Ms. Miriam Onuoha, speaking on behalf of the committee members, stated that they were collecting views from North-West members on how APC could become Africa’s largest party. She pointed out that the memoranda focused on the inclusion of women, youth, and PLWDs within the party. Onuoha stressed the constitution’s role in maintaining internal democracy and revealed that 11 positions in Ward Executives are designated for women.
Mr. Murtala Aliyu-Kankia, Secretary of the committee and National Legal Adviser, APC, praised Tinubu’s vision and commitment to strengthening the party’s internal democracy, ensuring APC’s continued status as Africa’s largest party.
