President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday had a crucial meeting with Governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC.
Speaking to Journalists at the end of the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State said it was a fruitful meeting that provided an opportunity for them to strategise ahead of the party’s convention and the 2019 election.
We talked about issues concerning our convention and congresses, on how to make it hitch free because of the time challenges that we have and we want to reassure Nigerians that especially the APC members that there will be full congresses and full convention, he said.
Rochas said the Governors also used the opportunity to commend President Buhari for agreeing to re-contest in 2019, thus consolidating on the achievements of the APC.
We commend him for the boldness and courage to declare his tension to run for a second term as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which we the 24 Governors of APC duly support and we have come to encourage him to go ahead with the vision to rescue Nigeria from its present challenges, the Governor stated.
On his part, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello said the party is satisfied with the leadership style of President Muhammadu Buhari.
I want to assure Nigerians that we have a very strong purposeful and very dynamic leader in President Buhari who is giving us good leadership and direction and everyone of us in APC ; Governors and other, we are going to align hundred percent, he pledged.
While also speaking, Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha said President Muhammadu Buhari has done a lot for the country and he deserves a second tenure.
He deserves a second chance because he has done very well and is prepared to take the country out of the squalor in which we found ourselves in the last 16 years. Turning around a system that has not been working well is not an easy task but he has been able to do that and is still willing and ready to do more, Mustapha said.
He also said the meeting was a routine one that as well looked at the forth-coming convention of the APC, which he said would be rancour free.
