Post: Ardova-Diadem Consortium to Establish 100 CNG Refuelling Sites Nationwide

Abuja:The Ardova Plc-Diadem Energy consortium has announced plans to expand gas infrastructure by establishing 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling sites across the nation. This initiative aims to address the refuelling shortage and improve access for customers.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the consortium’s decision follows an agreement to acquire Powergas, a leading producer and distributor of compressed natural gas in Africa, from Africa Infrastructure Fund I.

Ardova Plc, part of the consortium, will deploy CNG infrastructure throughout its retail network, with the goal of establishing 100 refuelling sites within 24 months. This expansion will enhance access to gas for commercial fleets and motorists, supporting Nigeria’s push to increase domestic gas utilization.

The consortium plans to expand Powergas’ compression capacity across key gas-producing areas, creating firm offtake for associated and non-associated gas. The initiative is expected to support flare reduction and attract further investment across the gas value chain.

The acquisition, anticipated to be completed by the end of 2026, will integrate Powergas’ gas sourcing, compression infrastructure, and industrial customer base with Diadem’s virtual pipeline logistics. Ardova’s extensive retail, logistics, and distribution network will be leveraged to achieve these targets, with potential expansion into the wider West African market.

Dr. George Eluwa, Chairman of Diadem Group, expressed confidence that the acquisition and consortium expertise would help reach more customers across the country. He emphasized the transformative potential of natural gas beyond conventional pipelines and the consortium’s role in delivering cleaner, more affordable energy in line with national energy goals.

Dr. Abdul-Wasiu Sowami, Ardova’s Executive Chairman, highlighted the partnership’s role in connecting Nigeria’s gas resources to industry, power, and transportation, supporting national initiatives on CNG and electric vehicles. He stated their ambition to offer more affordable, lower-emission energy and reduce transportation costs for Nigerians.

Abiola Babatunde-Ojo, Managing Director of Ardova Plc, emphasized the focus on execution, including expanding compression capacity and integrating CNG into their retail network to serve customers efficiently.

Pulak Sen, Vice-Chairman of Powergas, described the partnership as a natural fit, poised to expand into new markets and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s Auto-Gas vision.
