Post: Army Chief Emphasizes Discipline in Promotion Exercise for 490 Officers


Abeokuta:The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has urged 490 candidates in the 2026 Master Warrant Officer to Army Warrant Officer promotion exercise to maintain professionalism and discipline. This directive was announced during the inauguration of the promotion exercise board in Abeokuta.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Shaibu, represented by the Chief of Personnel Management, Maj.-Gen. Adewale Adekeye, highlighted that the exercise aims to identify the most qualified personnel for the rank of army warrant officer, a significant milestone in career progression for enlisted personnel. The promotion board is tasked with evaluating the candidates to select the most suitable individuals for advancement in the Nigerian Army.



Shaibu stressed the importance of professionalism and impartiality among both candidates and board members. He emphasized the need for a fair assessment process, ensuring that all candidates receive equal opportunities to succeed. Comprehensive medical examinations will be conducted as part of the exercise to verify candidates’ mental and physical fitness.



The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Maj.-Gen. Adebayo Babalola, expressed readiness to host the promotion board, welcoming the candidates to the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks. The exercise is scheduled to take place from October 5 to October 18.
