Army Headquarters, Guards Brigade end three-day marathon

The three day 2018 edition of the Half Marathon competition between the personnel of the Nigerian Army Headquarters Garrison and Guards Brigade have ended with Guards Brigade emerging the overall winner.

The Guards Brigade got a total of 900 points to beat the Army Headquarters Garrison in the Half marathon that started from Dutse and terminated at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro.

The Guards Brigade swept the podium in the Male category with Bala Yusuf coming in third position, Umar Ismaila in Second place and Peter Giang

In the female category, the Guards Brigade also swept the podium with 1, 2 to 3 finishes.

Speaking during the occasion, the special Guest of Honour, Major General Jack Okechukwu Nwogbo (rtd)said the half marathon is one of the activities aimed at building physical endurance, and fitness.

I want the participants to build on what they have started today. This marathon is one of those activities designed to ensure the troops are mentally alert to be able to perform their duty in line with the current Chief of Army Staff's vision to ensure we have a Nigerian Army that is responsive to its constitutional role, said Major General Nwogbo (rtd).

In his closing remarks, the Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General James Miang, who praised the resolute spirit of the participants, also commended the organisers for putting together the event to enhance the personnel's strength.
