Kano: The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi, says the Nigerian Army remains committed to deepening civil-military relations through sporting and community-based initiatives. Chibuisi stated this in Kano at the inauguration of the renovated Hole number 3 Tee Box at the Kano Golf Club, executed by Headquarters 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the project was part of the Army’s non-kinetic approach to operations aimed at fostering mutual trust, understanding, and collaboration between the military and host communities. Maj.-Gen. Chibuisi highlighted the historical connection between the Nigerian military and the game of golf, noting its presence within military formations nationwide.
He further elaborated on the historical ties between the Kano Golf Club and the Nigerian Army, dating back to the pre-colonial era. The renovation of the tee box by Headquarters 3 Brigade was described as a reflection of the Army’s commitment to preserving this heritage while promoting peace, unity, and sportsmanship.
The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs commended the leadership of the Commander, 3 Brigade, for initiating the project, which he described as a commendable effort to strengthen civil-military cooperation. He reiterated the Army’s determination to tackle insecurity across the country, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and community partnership for achieving lasting peace.
Maj.-Gen. Chibuisi urged citizens to continue supporting the military and other security agencies in their efforts to ensure national security and enhance socio-economic growth. Earlier, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Tukur, Commander 3 Brigade, reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to civil-military relations through non-kinetic initiatives, in line with the Army’s broader objectives.
Col. Ishiaku Abdulkarim, Commander, Armed Forces Specialist Hospital, Kano, provided historical context for the golf club, established in 1908, and emphasized its significance as one of the oldest and most respected in Nigeria and West Africa. He recounted historical milestones associated with the club, including the first Kano Golf Tournament and notable aviation and royal visits.
Alhaji Babangida Umar, President of Kano Golf Club, praised the Army’s gesture as a testament to its dedication to strengthening civil-military relations through community-oriented projects. Additionally, the Army inaugurated a newly renovated soldiers club at 3 Brigade, Bukavu Barracks.
