None of the aspirants in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun West Senatorial District will either leave or resign from the party irrespective of the outcome of the primaries that will determine the party’s flag bearer as long as the process is free and fair.
One of the aspirants, who is aspiring to be the APC candidate in the September 22 poll, Dr Peter Babalola gave this assurance in Osogbo the state capital, during his official declaration of intention to contest.
He however appealed to the party leadership to consider zoning the flag bearer to Osun West in the interest of equity and fairness, since other zones: Osun Central and Osun West have had their fair share.
I can assure you that all the aspirants from the Osun West Senatorial District have met with our elders and have signed an agreement not to defect from APC as long as the election is free and fair. We have equally resolved to support whoever emerges among us. We however appeal to the party to pick it’s candidate from our District, for in it lies fairness, justice and equity.
I am the most qualified among the aspirants, having served in various capacities: as a commissioner, a Chief of staff to a military administrator and currently the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission among others. I stand tall among other aspirants because I am not only a party loyalist, I am also well equiped with experience and capability to govern the state.
Governor’s achievements acknowledged
Babalola, also known as Peter Power lauded Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s outstanding performance and pledged to sustain the governor’s legacies by building on his six points action plan, saying, I share his vision, conviction, probity and doggedness.
The APC Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famoodun said while he was not unaware of the agitation for the emergence of the party flag bearer from the Osun West Senatorial District, he is duty bound to abide by the provisions of both the party and nation’s constitution.
What I can guarantee is the conduct of free, fair, credible and acceptable primary election. And If the result of the election reflects the agitation of the people, I am comfortable with wherever the flag bearer emerges from. However, we must be guided by the democratic ethos and the party constitution which stimulates that we must go through primaries.
Yes, it is a fact that APC is strong in Osun West, but we cannot but allow the constitution of our great party and Nigeria to guide us in whatever decisions we make, he concluded.
