Association Seeks Alignment of Government Policies with Masses’ Needs

Abuja: Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA) has urged the Federal Government to always endeavour to align all development policies with the needs, understanding and support of Nigerians. CCESSA National President, Ayodeji Adeyemo, made the appeal at the association’s First Quadrennial Delegates Conference with the theme: ‘Responsible Leadership: Key to Sustainable Development and Progress,’ on Friday, in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adeyemo said that government policies must be deliberately tailored to bring visible relief to the masses, who are grappling with poverty, insecurity, and infrastructural challenges. He explained that this was necessary because the masses were always the bearers of the yoke of government policies.

Adeyemo emphasized the need for economic policies to have the backing of the Nigerian masses with a clear understanding of the timeline, both short and long term benefits. He noted that most construction workers are currently unable to send their children to school due to the prevailing economic situation in the country. CCESSA expressed support for reforms that present a clear pathway to reposition the nation’s economy.

He highlighted the importance of policies being supported by the greater majority of the masses and stressed the necessity for constant evaluation by all stakeholders. Adeyemo called for a robust mechanism to cushion the negative effects of various government reforms, emphasizing that policy reforms should be made transparent to the populace, rather than being limited to government officials alone.

The CCESSA president also urged for greater political will to tackle the country’s prevailing insecurity and challenges in the electricity sector to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. He stated that now, more than ever, labor and employers must be partners, not adversaries, with a shared goal to ensure the stability of negotiation platforms.

Barrah noted the critical importance of a thriving and sustainable construction sector, warning that without it, workers, companies, and the nation would all suffer. He reaffirmed that FOCI and CCESSA would remain steadfast partners as stakeholders in nation-building.
