Post: Aviation Union Emphasizes Workers’ Right to Association

Lagos: The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association Nigeria (ATSSSAN) has reiterated the constitutional right of workers to associate freely. In a speech delivered on Thursday during the 2025 Workers Day celebration, Mr. Ilitrus Ahmadu, the National President of ATSSSAN, urged employers to respect this fundamental right.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ahmadu stressed the importance of allowing workers to join any union of their choice. He emphasized that it is overdue for employers to honor the inalienable constitutional rights of workers, underscoring the principles of dialogue and collective bargaining as essential for healthy industrial relations. Such practices, he noted, are crucial for fostering growth and prosperity within the aviation industry. Ahmadu warned that neglecting these principles could lead to chaos and negative disruptions in the sector.

Ahmadu also commended the aviation workers for their perseverance and courage. Despite facing challenges such as poor remuneration and a high cost of living, the workers continue to contribute significantly to national development. He highlighted their resilience as a testament to their collective desire to achieve victory in their struggles, expressing his solidarity with them.

Furthermore, the union leader acknowledged the support and partnership of employers, stressing the vital role of dialogue in resolving disputes. He assured that as a senior staff union, ATSSSAN respects boundaries and remains committed to dialogue as a key component of effective dispute resolution.
