Lagos:Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has distributed official Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to eight legislative members to enhance their effectiveness in fulfilling their responsibilities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the council also provided four new 18-seater buses to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Muslim Association, Community Development Committee (CDC) executives, and market executives within the LCDA.
The Chairman of the council, Mrs. Omope Adedeji, announced the vehicle distribution during a presentation ceremony at the council secretariat. This initiative coincides with Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and celebrates her birthday.
Adedeji emphasized that mobility is crucial for councillors to effectively perform their legislative, oversight, and constituency duties. The initiative aims to strengthen institutional capacity and support officials in serving residents efficiently.
She noted that the buses would boost morale and enhance the capacity of religious bodies, CDC executives, and market leaders to fulfill their roles. The SUVs for councillors are expected to improve mobility and community engagement with residents.
Adedeji highlighted that this initiative supports community outreach, welfare programs, and social interventions by market leaders, CDC, and religious bodies, which play vital roles in moral development and community cohesion. She urged beneficiaries to use the vehicles responsibly for official duties and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to sustainable development and stakeholder welfare.
Mr. Kolade David, the immediate past chairman of the council and APC candidate for the Shomolu Federal Constituency, praised Adedeji’s dedication to building an efficient local government system. He emphasized the need for adequate tools and logistical support for effective grassroots governance.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Adedeji for her leadership and commitment to good governance. Rev. Joseph Aroyerorun, Chairman of CAN, Bariga Chapter, appreciated the gesture and promised responsible use of the vehicles to better serve the religious community.
