BEDC Celebrates Historic Appointment of UBTH’s First Female CMD


Benin: Management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc (BEDC) has commended the Federal Government for appointing Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu as Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH). BEDC’s Managing Director, Jonathan Lawani, praised President Bola Tinubu for selecting Ize-Iyamu for this significant role.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Lawani also extended his congratulations to Ize-Iyamu, acknowledging her as the first female CMD of the hospital and describing the appointment as a historic milestone. He emphasized that her achievement is not only a personal triumph but also a reflection of the faith, resilience, and visionary leadership that have marked her outstanding career.



Lawani, who previously served as Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, highlighted that Ize-Iyamu’s success reinforces the idea that gender is not a barrier to excellence or dedication to public service.
