Karu:Prof. Haruna Ayuba, Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, has emphasized the importance of reinforcing moral foundations and spiritual resilience at the university to address the challenges facing Nigeria. This call was made during the university’s second valedictory lecture, delivered by Prof. Yusufu Turaki, Professor of Theology and Social Ethics.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the lecture, titled “Light on the Hill The Role of a Christian University in Shaping Nigeria’s Moral, Spiritual, and Ethical Future,” highlighted the responsibilities of universities in society. Ayuba praised Turaki, noting the significant role Christian universities can play in fostering integrity, compassion, and ethical leadership among young Nigerians and future leaders.
Ayuba expressed gratitude for Turaki’s contributions to the university, noting that over the past months, Turaki had shared his knowledge through various engagements, including public lectures and training sessions. Despite his age, Turaki’s dedication and humility were evident in his continued service to the academic community.
The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged Turaki’s historical role in the establishment of Bingham University, likening him to the biblical Joseph, who saw his dreams become reality. Turaki’s influence extended beyond Bingham University, impacting students and colleagues at Jos ECWA Theological Seminary through scholarship and mentorship.
In his valedictory lecture, Turaki encouraged the university to promote peace, justice, and ethical leadership while strengthening its role in rebuilding Nigeria through faith and scholarship. He urged lecturers to see themselves as “pastors in the classrooms and offices,” modeling integrity and fairness.
Turaki emphasized the responsibility of universities to produce graduates capable of meaningful contributions to society, advocating for justice, peace, and ethical leadership across the nation.
