President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to proceed to Maiduguri, Borno State for an on-the-spot assessment of the flood that engulfed the State in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Vice President disclosed this shortly before delivering the President’s speech at the opening of the 17th conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
The Vice President, who represented President Tinubu at the event, used the opportunity to commiserate with all parts of Nigeria currently suffering from flood.
‘Before I read the President’s speech, I want to use this forum to commiserate with the people of our great nation over the flood disasters we are recording all across the length and breadth of this nation.
‘After this meeting, with the consent of the President I will rush to Maiduguri because the whole city has been overtaken by floods,’ he said.
VP Shettima assured Nigerians that the government is working hard to address all challenges confronting the nation.
‘The problem of fl
ood is not peculiar to one part of the country; we are facing these challenges right from Bayelsa to Sokoto. Be rest assured that the President has the nation at heart and he will do whatever it takes to salvage the state of affairs,’ the Vice President stated.
