Anyigba: The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi, has announced new security measures across campus following an ‘unfortunate security breach’ on June 11.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, on June 11, a 300-level Biochemistry student was killed by suspected cultists. Two suspects were arrested the same day by the school internal security in connection with the incident, as stated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Usman.
In a notice signed by the Registrar, Mr Siyaka Audu, after the University Management Committee’s 401st Regular Meeting, the management directed immediate enforcement of restrictions to protect staff, students, and stakeholders. Under the directives, the management stated that no student will be allowed on campus with personal cars and motorcycles, including Haojue, TVS, and other ‘rubber-rubber’ bikes, until further notice.
It was also noted that tinted vehicles and vehicles with concealed number plates are barred. The management specified that the main gate would serve as the only entrance and exit, while other gates will be opened only for pedestrians. Students were directed to display their Identity Cards while on campus.
The Chief Security Officer is tasked with registering commercial motorcycle riders with union leaders and enforcing a 35km speed limit. Vehicle owners must obtain Vehicle Identification Tallies from the CSO, with a N5,000 fine for misplaced tallies. The management reiterated that the suspension of all unauthorized student gatherings remains in force.
Management further directed the CSO, Director of Physical Planning, and Director of Works and Maintenance to block all illegal routes into the campus. To ease movement, solar-powered tricycles will complement campus shuttles. The management urged strict compliance and cooperation with the 11-man committee investigating the breach.
